Meet the Owners

Roy and Chelsie Carter, lifelong Southwest Oklahoma natives, recently became the owners of The Verdant Mercantile & Refillery, continuing the store’s mission of serving and enriching the Altus community. Their commitment to sustainability, wellness, and local craftsmanship guides every aspect of the shop’s evolving vision.

Chelsie, a registered nurse with a deep passion for natural wellness, brings both professional insight and creative expression to the shop. Her dedication to clean, thoughtful living shapes the store’s product selection, while her handcrafted pottery—made with care and intention—adds an artistic dimension that reflects the heart of the region.

Roy, a United States Marine Corps combat veteran, continues his service to the community through his work as a real estate agent with Cole Properties and as an aircraft mechanic for the KC‑46 at Altus Air Force Base. His commitment to hard work, integrity, and supporting local makers is woven into the mission of the store.

Together, Roy and Chelsie —and Lillie, the beloved shop beagle—are building a business centered on connection, sustainability, and hometown pride. The Verdant Mercantile & Refillery exists to offer natural products, refillable essentials, and locally sourced goods that empower residents to invest in their health, their homes, and their community.
